The Shadow Rising : Chapter 1 : Seeds of Darkness

Chapter 1 : Seeds of Shadow

  • Min’s Visions

          -------------------

  • Page 20: “A slender woman with black hair falling to her waist, the only one of the three she recognized--her name was Ananda; she was Yellow Ajah--wore a  sickly brown halo, shriveled and split by rotting fissures that fell in and widened as they decayed.”

  • Page 21 : “The small, fair-haired Aes Sedai beside Ananda was Green Ajah, by her green-fringed shawl. The White Flame of Tar Valon on it showed for a moment when she turned her back. And on her shoulder, as if nestled among the grape vines and flowering apple branches worked on her her shawl, sat a human skull. A Small woman’s skull, picked clean and sun-bleached.”

  • Page 21 : “Another Accepted came to replace one already there, and to Min’s eyes bars floated in front of her apple-cheeked face, like a cage. Surely nothing could harm Sheriam.”

  • Page 21 : “The third, a plumply pretty woman halfway around the room, wore no shawl; most Aes Sedai did not except for ceremony. The lift of her chin and the set of her shoulders spoke of strength and pride. She seemed to be casting cool blue eyes on the petitioners through a tattered curtain of blood, crimson streamers running down her face.”

  • Page 21-22 “An Aes Sedai unknown to Min, wearing the shawl of the Brown Ajah, accompanied a stout woman in a finely woven red wool to the doors. The stout woman walked as lightly as a girl, face shinning, almost laughing with pleasure. The Brown Sister was smiling too, but her aura faded like a guttering  candle flame. Death, Wounds, captivity, and death.”

  • Page 22 : “Warders   hurried by her with barely a glance for two women, men who moved like hunting wolves, their swords only an afterthought to their deadlines, but they seemed to have bloody faces, or gaping wounds. Swords and spears danced around their heads threatening. Their auras flashed wildly, flickered on the knife edge of death. She saw dead men walking, knew they would die on the same day as the Aes Sedai in the entry hall, or at most a day later. Even some of the servants, men and women with the Flame of Tar Valon on their breasts, hurrying about their work, bore signs of violence.

An Aes Sedai glimpsed down a side hallway appeared to have chains in the air around                                                        her, and another, crossing the corridor ahead of min and her guide, seemed for most of those few strides to wear a silver collar around her neck.”

  • Page 23 & 26 : “Min flinched; for a moment; streaks of dried blood had made his face a grim mask. It was like a double hammer blow. Her friends were gone—it had eased her coming to the Tower, knowing they were here—and Gawyn was going to be wounded on the day the Aes Sedai died.

But Gawyn was someone she knew, someone she liked, and he was going to hurt more than the blood told, hurt somehow deeper than wounds to his flesh. It hit her that if catastrophe seized the Tower, not only distant Aes Sedai would be harmed, women he could never feel close to, but her friends as well. They were of the Tower.

More :  sword floated above his head, and a banner waved behind it. The long-hilted sword, like those most Warders used, had a heron engraved on its slightly curved blade, symbol of a blademaster, and Min could not say whether it belonged to Gawyn or threatened him. The banner bore Gawyn’s sigil of the charging White Boar, but on a field of green rather than the red of Andor. Both sword and banner faded with the blood.”

  • Page 28 : “For a moment the Keeper had been looking through a transparent mask of her own face, a screaming mask.”

  • Page 29 : “Siuan Sanche was standing there as regal as any queen, and for a moment she was lying on the floor, naked. Aside from her being in only her skin, there was something odd about the image, but it vanished before Min could say what.  It was as strong a viewing as she had ever seen, and she had no idea what it meant.” : I’m thinking this vision isn’t related to the Tower being invaded but unsure what it could be referring to at this time.

  • I’m starting to think these visions are more than what she’s seeing. I’m starting to think these visions with the Aes Sedai dying on the same day for example is foreshadowing that the Shadow is almost upon us once again after they thought it was destroyed and I’m predicting it will be coming straight for the White Tower.

  • Page 37 : “The very first thing Elaida had ever Foretold, while still an Accepted—and had known enough even then to keep to herself—was that the Royal line of Andor would be the key to defeating the Dark One in the Last Battle.” I understand people might’ve thought she made this up but I feel she should’ve told someone instead of keeping this Foretelling to herself for so long. Is there anyone at all Elaida trusts (sure doesn’t look like it)?

  • Page 37 : “The Foretelling had come to her at the sight of him [Rand]. He was ta’veren, one of those rare individuals who, instead of being woven into the Pattern as the Wheel of Time chose, forced the  Pattern to shape itself around them, for a time at least. And Elaida had seen chaos swirling around him, division and strife for Andor, perhaps for even more of the world.” Is this basically implying that Elaida knew Rand was ta’veren from the very beginning and hasn’t told anyone she knew? Why would she feel the need to keep it a secret?

  • Elaida  thinks The Amyrlin will destroy the Tower. I mean the Tower will likely be destroyed at some point; I’m believing it’ll be the Whitecloaks who will initially destroy the Tower, not the Amyrlin.

  • Super cool to see Moiraine and the Amyrlin were close friends as Novices. Hope to see more history between Moiraine and the Amyrlin in the future. Can’t wait!

  • The Fact Child Byar twisted the truth about how Geofram Bornhald died and saying Perrin was responsible for his death when really the Power killed him is quite sickening. This explains why Dss as in is all about killing Perrin because Child Byar told the version of the story he wanted Dain to hear.

My initial reaction : I’m thinking Child Byar changed the story to get Dain to do his dirty work of killing Perrin so Child Byar didn’t have to and could get what he wants without getting his hands dirty.

Then I  came up with this (chatted with a reader to help me understand some things I was confused about regarding end of Whitecloaks PoV) —>> I’m thinking Child Byar changed the story to get Dain to kill Perrin because I’m starting to think whatever he thinks is true and he thinks Perrin to be a Darkfriend (he’s liked quite a few Whitecloaks is most likely why Byar seemed Perrin a Darkfriend) meaning he’s guilty when in reality Perrin is really innocent. Child Byar is a well rounded “murderer” of sorts in my eyes and sends people to kill people because he tells them to. Hate this guy with a burning passion.

  • Due to Dain Bornhald wanting revenge on Perrin for killing his father I’m thinking he’ll orchestrate an attack on the Two Rivers and basically burn it to the ground (at some point) as payback for when and if Perrin comes back to the Two Rivers as payback and Perrin would be expecting the Two Rivers to still be intact like how it was when he left with Moiraine.

  • High Lady Suroth is tired of her failures and thinks if she can control Rand it’ll make it easier to control the Westlands under the control of the Crystal Throne. She hopes she will please the Empress of The Nine Moons to make up for her failures.

  • I’m thinking if and when Lady Suroth finds Rand I doubt she’d hand him over to the Empress due to her thinking he’s the key to controlling the Westlands.

  • Seeing Min playing a different role in The Shadow Riding with an undercover mission she’s disguised to speak with the Amyrlin sent by Moiraine is so cool let alone also seeing Min tell the Amyrlin about the three Aes Sedai she saw visions about that’d all die on the same day would most likely be very important for the Amyrlin to know about (but the Amyrlin won't know she can’t do anything to prevent these events from happening). Sure wasn’t expecting Min to be undercover to see the Amyrlin Seat.

  • Oh fucking god Elaida now knows Min was in disguise to meet with the Amyrlin and she believes the girls are probably not on a farm like she’d been told. I’m starting to agree  with Elaida. I know the girls are in Tear but she’s probably saying they’re on a farm but, I believe the Amyrlin is saying they are to protect them from being associated with Rand (The Dragon Reborn).

  • Elaida doesn’t seem as bad once you see what’s going on in her head and she just wants to know what’s going on but is quick to judge what she thinks is going on.
