The Dragon Reborn - Chapter 3 : News from the Plain
Ch.3
Symbol : It’s the symbol of the serpent biting its tail. This makes me think now think this logo could contain the One Power, Aes Sedai stuff and really theres a lot that this logo could be referring to when it’s used.
The chapter title is called : News from the Plain. This makes me believe that Leya is using the whole I’m gonna bring news to Moiraine to gain her trust and make her not suspect anything and then Leya might kill someone Moiraine wasn’t expecting and catches her off guard.
Main Points of the Chapter (aka what I thought was important from the chapter)
Mentioned characters (new characters) : none
When Perrin sticks up for Rand and tells Moiraine Rand’s earthquake was an accident it really made me feel things. It shows how great of a friend Perrin is to Rand; I imagine it’s hard for Perrin to tell Moiraine that it was just a mere “accident” when Rand lost control while channeling. I’d kill to know someone so loyal as Perrin(52).
I predict Rand might end up doing something horrible while not being able to control his channeling and end up brutally hurting (something similar to the earthquake he created while channeling) someone he’s really close to or one of his followers and he might regret later (53).
I also feel Moiraine really doesn’t want Rand being in charge especially with his channeling not being controlled like his earthquake “accident” and she wants things to go “her” way and probably thinks she’s better than Rand is at this point and doesn’t completely trust him to be in charge just yet but maybe at some point she will.
When Loial tells Min that everything you choose doesn’t always have to be bad but can sometimes be a great outcome hit me because my parents act the same way towards me (some of the time but not all the time it seems like to me at least) and seems like a fatherly thing to say(54).
I came across the quote “But I… I do not think I can. Not yet” made me think Perrin may not be able to go back to the Two Rivers for a long time and when he does I’m predicting he’ll come back to a traumatic event imposed by the Dark One while the boys were gone.
The quote “Another night when he won’t eat because he can’t stand the way everybody looks at him” shows just how isolated Rand has become and possibly worrying about what people think of his appearance. Rand also probably feels this way because he can’t control Saidin and I’m thinking it has something to do with the isolation he’s been showing lately. This resonated with me a lot because i myself have become very isolated due to people judging how I look or even how people will react to me being Bisexual. I’ve also larned as an adult Fuck what others think of me and decide to judge me and I’m like if I’m happy with myself that’s purely good enough.
When the quote “Carelessness might kill me yet” came up and made me think Rand’s uncontrollable channeling might either : A) harm someone close to him or B) someone super close to one of his friends or C) flat out kill someone(55). (Though this might be potential foreshadowing.)
I know Min’s visions have never been wrong but I think that part of Min’s vision regarding Leya’s death is somehow wrong and she might die another way or not die at all(55).
When it talks about the three boys being killed at a village,”One died by poison, two by the knife” makes me think something terrible physically will happen to mainly Rand and maybe the other two boys but if they get injured it won’t be as severe compared to Rand’s but still pretty bad injuries later in the series(57).
Soulless,I’m confused . The soulless seem like some crazy motherfuckers. Here’s what I’m gathering from them from chapter 3. I’m predicting the Soulless killed the 3 boys in a village that her camp passed and they must have referred to the 3 boys. I’m thinking they’re some sort of assassins because Moiraine was worried one would slit her throat(58-9).
Afterthoughts
Rand is in charge of being the Dragon Reborn but Moiraine doesn’t trust Rand so she has most of the power. I could see this going yep ways, A) Rand takes it upon himself to do the things Moiraine has told not to interfere with and figure out what has been killing the boys similar to Rand’s age(as in like a screw you kinda way, “You can’t stop me for doing what is right” kinda gesture or B) Moiraine May eventually start trusting Rand later but looks like it’ll be a while before that happens.
I find it odd that The Children of the Light are trying to get the Taraboners and the Domani back to their borders. This isn't like The Children when they normally just wanted to make peace. What actually is going on????
Point of View at the end of the chapter
