The Great Hunt - Chapter 40 :
Ch.40
Symbol : The symbol looks like a figure eight. Certainly a new symbol. No idea what it is yet; it looks like the top goes on top of the bottom piece and looks like a ter'angreal.
483, After reading : The symbol is the a’dam (aka the silver collar that’s on the Leashed Ones). Deain made a’dam and the first sul’dam was found and discovered that the Aes Sedai must be leashed.
Chapter title : The chapter title is called Damane. This makes me think the Damane slaves will be a big part of Fain’s plan after both the girls get to Toman’s Head and will start a war.
I was very off from what the chapter was actually about by a long shot and that’s all part of the fun I’d say.
Main Points of the Chapter (aka what I thought was important from the chapter)
Mentioned characters : High Lady Suroth,Renna, Elbar, Luthair Paendrag Mondwin, Deain, Alwhin, Gareth Bryne, Lini
Egwene was collared because she’s an Aes Sedai; Suroth wants all Aes Sedai on the other side of the ocean. Liandrin specifically gave the girls to Suroth because Bal’zamon is their leader; he sees Nynaeve and Egwene as a threat (maybe because they’re super strong channelers and or because he’s trying to separate them from Rand so they can’t help get the Horn back or because Rand is really connected to the girls and they are indeed his friends, and if something bad happens it just might hurt Rand and make him suffer). 476-477
Egwene has a silver collar around her neck like the Damane slaves and the woman has the leash bracelet around her wrist( she probably has it because she’s an Aes Sedai). When Egwene tried to fight back, she was hit because I think Suroth does not like Aes Sedai at all and wants to get rid of all of them.
Egwene is noticing the other Damane slaves.
Min attacked the hooked man.
Egwene tried to get out of the collar but probably realized it’ll do absolutely nothing. Now I’m starting to think at first Egwene thought Renna was wrong about Egwene being a leashed one but now I’m thinking she thinks Renna was telling the truth.
Renna patted Egwene on the head as if she was her personal pet. I’m starting to think they think the leashed ones are less than a human and just pets that can be used as they wish.
I have a strong suspicion Liandrian was in on Egwene becoming a leashed one and not even going to Toman’s Head in the first place.
Omg Liandrian kidnapped the girls to be used as slaves for Renna. I never thought Liandrian would be Renna’s messenger for their Master. I also think Liandrin can make lies seem very believable.
Liandrian is definitely super SUS now for sure for what she just did and betrayed the girls!!
Renna and Liandrian both fear the Master.
I’m starting to think Renna was really after Egwene and Nynaeve because they’re closely connected to Rand and they’ll use them against the boys.
Suroth wants to take anyone that can channel with her on the boat. Omg this might just be the start of a war.
I really hope Egwene can save Min and Egwene has promised to work if it meant Min could live. Desperate times call for desperate matters.
Egwene is curious about who Liandrin and the High Lady’s master is and she associates the man in her dreams to it.
Luthair first faced the Armies of the Night; son of the Hawkwing
Deain is collared.
If a Damane can make a’dam they’d be treated better.
What is the Court of the Nine Moons?
Egwene refuses to channel.
- 484-85 “......but one with the bracelet one can always tell whether a damane has tried to channel. You must never lie to me; or to any sul’dam, not even a hair” (484-485).
- 485 “I have to get away. I have to, but how? Nynaeve, help me. Light, somebody help me” (485).
Nynaeve
“I’ll certainly take pleasure in telling Sheriam about them, she thought dryly. Aes Sedai don’t use the Power as a weapon, do they” (486)?
- “She certainly had. She had at least knocked the two women down with the lightning strike, and she had seen one of the soldiers, or his body rather, burn from the ball of fire she made and hurled at them” (486).
- “Now she was forced to admit that what she felt most was fear. Fear for them, fear for herself. It was anger she needed” (486).
Elayne and Nynaeve hug after finding each other.
- “I will make her curse the day her mother laid eyes on her father” (487).
I’m betting Liandrin lied during her oaths.
Nynaeve, Elayne and Min are going to Falme to help Egwene.
Afterthoughts
I was right about Liandrin being of the Black Ajah.
I learn that the shared Master is the Dark One aka
Now I for sure HATE Liandrin with a burning passion.
Point of View at the end of the chapter
This chapter is from Egwene’s Point if View.
The last bit was from Nynaeve’s Point of view.
