The Great Hunt - Chapter 26 : Discord
Ch.26
After I finish the chapter
Symbol : The symbol is Thom’s Harp. His harp could be referring to Rand delivering the Harp and Flute back to Thom.
Chapter title: The chapter is titled Discord. I think the chapter title was referring to how Rand is trying to convince Thom to join him on the journey but Thom wants nothing to do with the Glory of the Horn.
This sounds like Rand at the very beginning when he first learns about the Horn of Valere.
Main Points of the Chapter
Rand excitedly tells Loial and Hurin is very much alive. Meanwhile Hurin wants to meet Thom
Loial is acting like a fucking hermit and refuses to leave the inn room.
Rand convinces Loial to go with him to meet Thom in his room at The Bunches of Grapes but as it turns out Thom is not in and they Meet Dena instead.
Dena seems super nice and chill with Rand and Huron to wait for Thom. Meanwhile Rand brought back Thom’s flute and harp like he promised.
Dena- Thom’s apprentice (first women glee man)
Thom also promised Dena she can perform in the halls ( assuming with the harp)
Thom has finally returned.
I honestly think Thom and Dena like each other.
When they kiss it makes Rand uncomfortable.
I found it interesting that Rand asked Thom if there were any books that had The Prophecy of the Dragon in them.
Maybe Rand is wanting to learn more about the Prophecy of the Dragon; maybe Rand is finally accepting his fate and that he might be the Dragon Reborn and wanting to have a feel for what he may have to do as the Dragon Reborn before he becomes it completely.
How Owen died made me upset, “He never hurt anyone. He didn’t use the Power unless he had to l, and then only to help his village.”’ “‘I suppose there was no choice.”’
Rand is trying to convince Thom that they have the Horn and he’s not buying it; let alone Thom wants nothing to do with The Horn’s glory and says he’s done and wants nothing to do with the Horn.
Point of View at end of the chapter
The chapter is from Rand’s Point of View.
Rand tries to persuade Thom to go on the journey with them but Thom wants nothing to with the glory associated with the Horn.
Thom —>> he doesn’t want to marry Dena and then burden her for having an old husband.
Quotes
“The nobles all play the Game of Houses, scheming to get close to the King, scheming to gain more power than the King, scheming to pull down Galldrian and be the next King. Or Queen. They will think Tarmon Gai’don is only a ploy in the game” (325).
This quote basically is saying that the nobles are too concerned with their own power to pay any attention to the last battle.
“‘It doesn’t matter if the Hunt has left Illian or not.”’ Rand heard Loial’s breath catch. “‘Thom, we have the Horn of Valere.”’ ….”’You two have the Horn? A shepherd and a beardless Ogier have the Horn of …”’ He doubled over, pounding his knee. “‘The Horn of Valere!”’ “‘But we do have it,”’ Loial said seriously (324).
This quote is saying that Thom assumed they were hunting the Horn like everyone else and told them if they didn't go through the proper ceremony they'd never get in the stories.
“‘Twice and twice shall he be marked,
twice to live, and twice to die.
Once the heron, to set his path.
Twice the heron, to name him true.
Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost.
Twice the Dragon, for the price he must pay.”’
“‘Twice dawns the day when his blood is shed.
Once for mourning, once for birth.
Red on black, the Dragon’s blood stains the rock of Shayol Ghul.
In the Pit of Doom shall his blood free men from the Shadow.”’
