The Great Hunt - Chapter 14 : Wolfbrother
(Note: This image is being used in relation between the chapter and the chapter icon)
Symbol : It’s the wolf symbol referring to Perrin. I’m thinking the wolf symbol indicates we’ll meet up with Elyas and learn the whereabouts of what they’ve been up to and maybe see Perrin get a lead role in the wolf pack.
Wolfbrother is probably referring to where Rand’s group meet up with Elyas and the wolf’s in the alternate reality and help them get back to the normal timeline. Also I feel Perrin will be part of the pack and will be a big part for how they will activate the portal stone.
Details that might catch my eye :
"'Three men and three horses do not just vanish,"' Ingtar growled. "'Go over the ground, again Uno." "If anyone can find where they went, it's you."' "'Maybe they just ran away,"' Mat said. "Would would they run away?" Ingtar's voice was dangerously soft. "'Rand the Builder...."'Why would they run, much less all three?'" - I believe Ingtar thinks something bigger is up with Rand’s disappearance than him just being considered missing. I’m not convinced with Mat thinking they just ran away, how stupid is Mat at this point? And Ingtar is like would they actually just run away, he also believes something bigger related to Fain perhaps and Rand missing might all be part of the dark one’s plan perhaps.
"Contact. He felt them, felt other minds. Felt his brothers, the wolves. Their thoughts came to him as a whirlpool blend of images and emotions. At first he had not been able to make out anything except the raw emotion, but now his mind put words to them. Wolfbrother. Surprise. Two-legs that talks. A faded image, dim with time, old beyond old, of men running with wolves, two packs hunting together. We have heard this comes again. You are Long Tooth?" - This made me think the wolves might come later in this chapter since Perrin is thinking about his Wolfbrothers and they may perhaps come to the group in the portal world’s rescue when they find Fain and his Darkfriends.
#"Light help me, I killed two men. They would have killed me even quicker, and Egwene, but..." - (should i add to other qupte regarding killing the whitecloaks?)
"And Mat will die if we don't find the dagger. Burn you, Rand, why did you take the sniffer?" - Perrin is like why did Rand run off with Hurin (the sniffer) and without Hurin the group now can’t save Mat and find the dagger. Oh darn.
"There were only two things wolves hated. All else they merely endured, but fire and Trollocs they hated, and they would go through fire to kill Trollocs." - I believe this will be helpful when the group finds Fain and perhaps the wolves will save the day and kill Fain at any cost so they can get back the Horn and get back to their own world.
#"The invisible flesh and bitter blood would burn the tongue, but they must be killed. Kill them. Kill the Twisted Ones. Their fury infected him. His lips peeled back in a snarl, and he took a step, to join them, to run with them in the hunt, in the killing." -
"I will not kill. Not again. If he tries to kill me for a Darkfriend, I'll run, but I won't kill anybody else." - Perrin is probably thinking about when he killed the whitecloaks when Hopper died. He’s like I’m better than they are and doesn’t want to kill like they do unless it’s absolute nessecary.
“Bodies, men and women and children, heaped and tumbled about. Blood-soaked earth churned by hooves and frenzied attempts to escape. Torn flesh. Heads severed. Vultures flapping, their white wings stained red ; bloody, featherless heads tearing and gorging. He broke loose before his stomach emptied itself. “
“Above some trees in the far distance he could just make out black specks whirling low, dropping then rising again. Vultures fighting over their meal. “‘There’s something bad up there.”’ - This shows the group might being watched meaning the vultures could be spying for the dark one. Also with the vultures in the trees I would expect something terrible to the group someway somehow.
“‘And there is someone following us,”’Ingtar said. “Mat turned his horse eagerly.” “‘Maybe it’s Rand. I knew he wouldn’t run out on me.”’ - The group probably thought a minion of the dark one was following the group but find out Verin has been following them. My question is why has she been following them and why has she just now made her presence known?
“‘Where is Rand al’Thor?”’ Ingtar grimaced. “‘Gone, Verin Sedai. Vanished last night, without a trace. Him, the Ogier, and Hurin, one of my men.”’ - this makes me believe Ingtar thinks she has something to to with Rand’s so called “disappearance”. I kinda agree with him , she just appeared right after he disappeared. Something seems fishy with her coming back.
"'You think their disappearance has something to do with the Horn, Aes Sedai?"' Verin settled back. "'The Horn? No. No, I ... think not. But it is odd. Very odd. I do not like things until I can understand them."' - This makes me think Verin knows who did it or that she did it and is just downplaying the rest of the group to think she just came to help and knows nothing about Rand’s disappearance or Moiraine’s for that matter.
"'It's Rand she's after,"' Mat murmured, "'not the Horn."' Perrin nodded. "Wherever you've gotten to, Rand, stay there. It's safer than here." - I’m confused why Verin wants Rand right when she finds the group. I’m thinking she wants to find him since he may know a secret about Verin she doesn’t want to be completely public.
POV changes (if any) :
It starts out with Perrin’s POV and ends with Perrin's POV. At the end Perrin thinks Rand vanishing means he’s in a safe place and wants him to stay there, but I believe wherever Rand is he’ll try to come back when the time is right or when the group is In danger. Why did she Randomly just show up?
Predictions for later in the book or later in the series :
I'm wondering why Verin has randomly showed up to join the group. What does Verin want with Rand?
I believe the horn disappearing triggered the house interaction as a warning or vision like this could be you if you don't get the horn in time.
I believe everything from the house, the horn disappearing and the Portal stone all had something to do with their disappearances as well as I think Verin knows more than she's telling them regarding Rand and Moiraine's disappearance. I think Verin had something to do with their disappearances, was part of the reason they disappeared and knows where they went. I also think everyone in the alternate reality all have a role to play to get back to their timeline.
I think Padin Fain will be slightly different in the alternate reality based on how the environment drastically changed after they wake up.
When I think about it all of the dark one's creatures are darkly colored. is there a symbolic meaning relating to the taint being everywhere they are or the fact its everywhere. Or is this just a coincidence?
